Welcome to FS1, your child's class teacher is Mrs Fenwick and the the LSAs are Mrs Esberger, Mrs Midgley and Mrs Jacobs.
Our reception class is about much more than the children learning shapes, colours, numbers and letters. It is about them developing their curiosity, independence, confidence and resilience. This is a very exciting time for both yourselves and your children, as they take their first steps into school life.
Remember all of our learning will be shared on Tapestry.
In the foundation stage we currently use the reward system 'Dojo,' which helps to build an amazing classroom community. Dojo is a safe and simple communication app for teachers, parents and pupils.
We use this system to encourage and reward the children. Each child has an alien avatar, which collects their points.
Through this system we are able to keep you up to date with your child's learning and experiences in school. We are also able to communicate with you through instant message.
If you do not have an account set up, please speak to a member of staff.
Read Write Inc.
At St Giles Academy we aim for all our children to become fluent, confident readers who are passionate about reading. We use Read Write Inc Phonics (RWI) to give your child the best possible start with their literacy.
What is Read Write Inc?
Read Write Inc (RWI) is a phonics complete literacy programme which helps all children learn to read fluently and at speed, so they can focus on developing their skills in comprehension, vocabulary and spelling. The programme is designed for children aged 4-7. In Reception all children will learn how to ‘read’ the sounds in words and how those sounds can be written down.
RWI was developed by Ruth Miskin and more information on this can be found at https://ruthmiskin.com/en/find-out-more/parents/.
This term the focus has been on the children having the opportunity to explore their new learning environment and getting to know their peers and teachers.
Each day the children have joined in with circle times, where they have had the opportunity to discuss their interests, likes, dislikes, similarities and differences.
This term the children have enjoyed listening to a different story each week. Some of the story read are, 'The three little pigs", 'Goldilocks and the three bears.' and 'Commotion in the Ocean.' The children have also enjoyed sharing their favourite nursery rhymes.
