Welcome to Class 9!
2019/2020
We are a Year 5 class and our teachers Miss Knight and Mrs Dineen.
Spring Term
Welcome back Class 9! This term we are looking at the Ancient Egyptians and the legacy they have left behind. We will be creating our own Scarab Beetle designs, learning a range of stitches and sewing our final piece. In Music, we are composing our own Ancient Egyptians pieces of musics using instruments and singing.
In PE, we are focusing on dodgeball and basketball. We do ask that children bring in their full PE kit. There will be some lessons outside, so children should bring appropriate footwear and outerwear.
Spring Term Update!
This half term has gone by quickly! We have been very busy with our learning, including, looking at a range of Egyptian music and considering how music makes us feel. We have looked at a world history timeline and thought about the legacy Egyptians have had on the world, such as people like Cleopatra and the Pyramids. We have started to learn how to use a variety of softwares to create content, including GoogleDocs and GoogleSlides. In PE, we have mastered various skills including pivoting and dribbling.
We are looking forward to another packed half term on the run up to Easter!
Autumn Term
This term we are looking at Natural Disasters and how they effect the world around us. In geography, we are exploring various places around the world which are prone to these disasters and explaining why this might be.
This half term we are learning about animals including humans in science and after the October half term will be looking at Space. In art, we will be analysing the work of Peter Thorpe and then creating our own rocket paintings, linking to our science learning.
In music we will be creating our own ostinatos on the run up to Christmas. In computing, coding a maze game linking to natural disasters. We have a weekly French sessions with Mrs Wheatley.
Year 5 have had a fantastic term...
They have learnt a lot about different natural disasters and how to stay safe if one happens. They have had fun making model bridges that would withhold and Earthquake and art inspired by the artist Peter Thorpe (these will all be on display and the end of year festival).
The highlight for most children was taking over Lincoln castle, Cathedral and Collection for the day. Running the shops, being tours guides and much, much more.
I hope all the children rest up as much as possible over the holidays as we have lots more learning to come in the new year: with our project focus being the Egyptians.
