Welcome to Class 3!
Our teacher is Mrs Gallivan and we also work with Mrs Pearce and Miss Ford.
The children have made a fantastic start in Year 2 and have made some excellent progress despite their time off in Year 1. Their behaviour and attitude has been amazing with all the new rules, routines and expectations and their effort with their learning has been brilliant! Well done and keep it up.
PE - This will be on Tuesdays and the class will be taught by Coach Jamie from Synergy. Please send your child into school in uniform on these days, as we will now get changed for the session in school. Please make sure PE kits are in school throughout the term.
WATERBOTTLES ~ due to Covid-19 each child should now have a water bottle in school with them this can be filled when emptied, it should be taken home and washed each night.
SNACKS ~ due to Covid-19 there will be no snack shack. The children do have the opportunity to have some fruit each day at break times.
There is no need for children to bring anything from home, such as cuddly toys, pencil cases and 'things to show'.
In Maths we are looking at Number and place value. Later in the term we will focus on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
In English we are currently focussing all our English on Handa's Surprise. There are many more wonderful texts to explore as the term progresses, but we can't tell you now because it's a secret!
In Science the focus for the term is Living things and their habitats. We will learn about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores and create some simple food chains.
In Geography the children will be focussing on Physical or Human. They will be comparing the UK and a county in Africa. Ask the children all the interesting facts they have learned.
In Maths we will revisit place value, addition and subtraction and multiplication and division. We will also learn about fractions and how to tell the time. Challenge us on analogue clocks at home.
In English we have lots of interesting texts and videos to explore. We can't tell you what they are yet, as the children need to solve the mystery. Our work will involve writing a letter, writing an action story and performing a poem.
In Science the focus for the term is materials. We will learn about different materials, their properties and their different uses. We are looking forward to investigating materials to make an umbrella for Giles the bear. I hope we choose the right material or he will get very wet!
In History we will learn about the lives of two significant people from the past- Florence Nightingale and Grace Darling. We will explore how their actions have changed the way we live today. In art we will make a collage of Florence Nightingale and look forward to designing and creating lighthouses in DT, linked to our work on Grace Darling.
We are excited about our very busy term!
In Maths we will continue to work on the four operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Keep working hard on Numbots and Times Tables Rock Stars at home too. We will also learn how to measure length, weight and capacity, which will give us lots of skills for building and baking- at home and in school.
In English we have lots of interesting texts and videos to explore. We can't tell you what they are yet, as the children need to solve the mystery. Our work will involve writing poems and diary entries. Ask the children if they can recite the poem, Please Mrs Butler, which we learned last term.
In Science the focus for the term is Animals, including humans. We will learn what animals need to survive, the different types of animal- such as mammal, reptile, bird, fish and amphibians, and their life cycles. There will be lots of new, scientific vocabulary to learn. If you would like to learn more at home, look out for Steve Backshall's 'Deadly 60' on CBBC- its great!
In History we will learn about The Great Fire of London- when it happened, how it started, how it spread and how we know about it today. We will also reflect on the positive changes that were made as a result of the disaster. Our art work will be linked to this topic as we paint fire backgrounds, with printed buildings in the foreground. Watch this space for our final outcomes.
We are looking forward to an exciting term!
