Class 10

Welcome back to St Giles Academy and I hope you are eager to embark on your Year 5 journey!

Our adults for this year are:

Mr Finn (Class Teacher)

Miss Brickwood (Learning Support Assistant - Monday to Friday)

Mrs Wheatley (Learning Support Assistant - Monday to Wednesday)

Our Learning

Class 10's main topic for the Autumn term is North America vs The United Kingdom. This will be a Geography driven topic but will draw in other areas of the curriculum along the way.

We will be starting the year by focusing on our Art project of sculpting traditional Totem Poles out of clay! We will look at Andy Goldsworthy as a sculptor before looking at totem pole designs by Tony Hunt Sr. Following this, we will design our own totem pole based on our favourite things before finally sculpting and painting them!

Other subject focuses for the Autumn term are:

Maths - Place Value, Addition and Subtraction, Statistics, Multiplication and Division and Measurement: Area and Perimeter.

English - Snow Leopard, Street Child, Wolf Brother and St Nicholas and the Children (a special Canadian folk tale)

Science - Materials and their properties

PE - Basketball and Gymnastics

French - Months of the year, days of the week

PSHE - Emotions and Feelings

Class 10's PE days for Autumn term are Monday and Friday. Please send your child to school in their trainers on Mondays and in their full kit on a Friday.

Homework will be set on a Friday (both paper copies and on Google Classroom) which are to be completed and returned by the following Friday.
